I'm in Finland on holiday and thought this book would elucidate the country's secrets of educational success but all it does is spout platitudes. Does the author really believe Finland is unique in providing free and equal education, holding parent-teacher meetings, encouraging each child to reach his potential, etc.? If there is something unique about Finnish schools, it certainly doesn't come across in this "book". A total waste of $2.99 !!!Product details

I think there are take aways from this book. Not sure if the Fin System would work in the US , but there are some ways that can be incorporated into our educational system. 5 stars
It was very brief. Lots of cliche comments which the author doesn't seem to believe fully. Makes me want to learn more about the Finns.
This gave me a quick summary of the Finnish education system. It was not full of studies verifying data, but it did give me an idea of the system. It was free, so I was not expecting something with a lot of data.
Okay book, didn't give out much details on how they are successful and the book was way too short, this could have been written as a news article.
Kouta analyses Finnish success at PISA results, underlining what all researchers have acknowledged a well organized and extremely qualitative public school system. Now Finland isn’t on top of the World. China is, since 2009. This dynamical fact doesn’t suppress analytical relevance of this work, but it would be adequate to actualize data. Finnish success is still inspiring…
This a very informative book that explains many things about the school system there. When is preschool, how many years do they go, what next, what is the cost to them, what about meals, homework, were all questions I had that were answered. A lot of information in this little book. Thanks.
The Finns have a small population(5.3million) that has limited diversity, which makes it much easier to develop an outstanding education system. One thing they do to achieve education excellence, which has nothing to do with a small population and lack of diversity, is fund two teachers per class to increase the individual attention to the students. That is not all, but teachers in Finland are not at the low end of the pay scale. They attract the best.
